Today, for "Women's History Month", let's celebrate all the amazing woman in this beautiful family
"The Power Girls"
Shannon Murray, mother of three, writer...
Shannon is secretly a mermaid...
Shannon Murray grew up in Connecticut (still her favorite place) and later moved to Maine with her family. She left Saco right after graduating from Thornton Academy and settled in Washington, DC for nearly a decade. She studied Communications/Mass Media and Public Policy at Trinity College in D.C. and interned at the Washington Post and C-SPAN (where she would continue to work as a Television Producer, setting the stage for her career in television and writing). She traveled the globe with several families for whom she worked, getting lots of material for children’s books and programs. While at Trinity and for the rest of her time in Washington, she volunteered at St. Anne’s Children’s & Maternity Home, the most treasured and precious days of her life.
She left Washington just before 9/11, planning on going to work at a children’s orphanage in Kenya-but that did not pan out. Circumstances would keep her in Maine that year, working at WGME-13 and planning her next move. She flipped a coin and decided to move to Paris to write and tutor children in English. Paris in 2002-03 was overwhelmingly anti-American but Shannon found solace in other ex-pats and found mentors in artists and in moms of the kids she tutored. She started a kids writing club, PARIS INK, at the American Library in Paris- an unforgettable and truly defining experience!
She left Paris and wound up in Florida, working as a Writer-Producer for a local ABC affiliate. After the birth of her first son, Harrison, she longed to be back near family in Maine. Son Tyler joined soon after and Shannon worked from home for a Fortune-500 company based in Washington, D.C.
She soon moved back to Saco to raise her boys. Shannon found work through a large media grant and began helping to plan, build and co-run a state-of-the-art Television Studio for students in York County. She taught video production, writing, and learned editing along the way with help from the students.
She married her “ACE” of a husband at Plum Island Airport in 2015 and was blessed with her daughter, Piper Rose in 2017. Together they raise the 3 children and yellow lab Teddy and never miss a beach day. Shannon currently hosts podcasts, tries to keep her potty mouth clean and is still working on publishing her children’s books!

Jacqueline McAuliffe, District Admin for Target Corporate
I was born in Stamford, CT into a family of 8 children (I am #6~!). I was three years old when tragedy struck , my father suddenly passing away and my mother was left a widow at 35 with 8 young children to raise. We lived in Connecticut until I was 13, moving to Maine in the middle of 7th grade to be near to my grandfather. I attended Thornton Academy and loved sports in High School, field hockey, basketball and tennis and was very active in Student Council and went on to attend the University of Southern Maine.
In my twenties, I played on a women’s volleyball team and then in my early thirties went on to coach Elementary Basketball. While in my early thirties, I found my niche in Sales and Marketing, first in Retirement Communities and then in the private sector selling and leasing for area builders. For the last 13 years, I have been the Senior District Administrator for Target Stores in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, which keeps me very busy!
I am currently in a committed relationship of 17 years, and we have two fur babies, Stella and Stanley and are working on renovating our dream home which has a million dollar view of the Saco River and is also just steps from the beach. In my spare time, I love beach combing, biking, traveling, reading and have just begun to learn to play the guitar.

KC McAuliffe, world traveller, Peace Corps veteran x2! Americorps, US Navy and beloved Nanny to her 5 grandchildren.
Kathleen “KC” grew up in Stamford and Danbury Connecticut with her 6 sisters and brother. She joined the U.S Navy after graduating from Immaculate Conception High School. She trained as a Navy Medic and lived 4 glorious years in Rota, Spain- giving birth to her daughter Shannon before returning to Connecticut. She later moved her family to Maine to be closer to her sisters and mother when she was expecting her son John, “JD”.KC cherished her time in the Service and longed to do missionary work. After a career in the medical field, and both children grown and on their own paths, KC joined the Peace Corps—at age 57! She spent 2 years in Belize, working on community health improvemt in the rural villages.
She returned to Maine for a brief summer visit with her grandkids and was called again to serve—this time in Fiji! As one of the elder serving Peace Corps members and an alum – she was matched with the younger groups of volunteers and acted as a mentor and leader to her group and is still in close contact with many of them.
After several years in the tropics, KC then set her sights on an Americorps commitment in Alaska!
She was fortunate to have many of her sisters, nieces and her son visit her in these amazing places.
For now, KC is content (we think!) here in Saco where she works for Catholic Charities. She is always ready to help with the little ones and relishes the time she spends with her grandchildren: Harrison, Tyler, Maisie and Piper Rose.
KC has lived in Maine for over 30 years. She has traveled the world and always looks forward to coming home to Maine to her every growing Family and friends! There is no place like Maine!********
Helen Corriveau aka Pookie, She is the family baker, party-thrower, best care-package-maker on the planet!
Pookie was born into the younger end of the big crazy family of eight. Raised by an incredible, strong, resilient single mom, and older sisters and brother who stepped up and got the job done with love and grace. A transition from Connecticut to Maine in sixth grade, to be closer to our grandfather and life in the slow lane.
She met the love of her life in geometry class in high school. He too from a big crazy family, he too raised by a feisty, strong, resilient, single mom. A guidance counselor that we called smokin' Joe led her to Assumption College in Worcester, a blessing and opportunity for an education in social rehabilitation services.
Pookie found beautiful friendships with strong, smart, passionate women who are and will be lifelong true friends. Back to Maine to start a life with Richie and enjoy families who were growing by leaps and bounds with the most awesome next generation. No children of their own but between them, 18 nieces and nephews and all the joys that come with, " it takes a village" . They let us into their lives and bring so much love and joy into our lives.
First job out of college at Sanford regional vocational center (now technical center) yes, often stopped in the halls and asked to see her hall pass! Then on to the great State of Maine Vocational Rehabilitation to work as a Rehabilitation Counselor with High School students who have disabilities, to assist them with their transition from school to work, for the past 32 years. "Love what I do! Do what I love!"
She lives a quiet life with a kind, calm hubby, and so many grand nieces and nephews that keep them filled with joy.
Note from Pookie: "I try to spend as much time as I can with my fabulous fun sisters. They are my best friends, my source of strength and my guiding light. They nourish my soul, pick me up when I fall down and celebrate any and all accomplishments great or small. They have helped to form who I am and who I am yet to be!"
