Today, for the 4th day of the "Women's History Month", we are celebrating this happy and wonderful lady
Meet Hillary Goldthwait-Fowles, 53, wife, mom and stepmom, cat and dog lover... walking on the path to self-acceptance.
“ I can be changed by what happens to me. I refuse to be reduced by it” -Maya Angelou
Hillary currently lives in Saco Maine where she is from, but she did spend some time in Florida and Massachusetts. She eventually found her way back home where her heart is.
Some may say she has a lot of education. She has her doctorate in curriculum and instruction, a masters degree in instructional design and a masters degree in special education. She also has a certification as an assistive technology professional.
Hillary Currently works as an instructional design specialist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland and I have the privilege of working remotely which I absolutely love, the work is deeply fulfilling and is absolutely amazing. I pinched myself because I’m so fortunate to do what I get to do. I also consult in the areas of assistive technology, special education, accessible, educational materials, teacher, prep, and universal design for learning. I also teach classes for graduate students at the university of Maine at Farmington and the university of New England.
Life challenges, I think the biggest challenge was overcoming trauma, anxiety, and depression. I think how you look at a challenge determines outcomes and I look at challenges now as something to work around or something to work through and it can ultimately make you stronger. it’s still an ongoing process, but it feels like a recovery and a rebirth and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to be better every day.
My passions are my family, friends, sunsets, books, the beach, and helping people realize they matter. I believe that our humanity is our common thread.
I value understanding the most in life. We all come from different places and spaces. Being curious and understanding different perspectives matter.
Advice for other women- develop a love of yourself so that you are able to show love to others. Hating on yourself is exhausting.
another one of Hillary's Favorite quotes:
“Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail“ -Ralph Waldo Emerson
