Today for the Women's History Month, we are celebrating this beautiful, charming and elegant lady
Meet Lukombo Celestino, 41, wife, mother of 4, strong, resilient and happy woman
Lukombo was born in Angola, Africa and moved from Angola to Namibia in 2010. She moved to Namibia so her children could have access to better healthcare and receive a better education. She has been married for 20 years, and is the mother of 4 children- one daughter and three sons.
In March of 2017, Lukombo and her children moved to Portland, Maine. Moving to the United States posed a lot of new challenges for Lukombo, and there were many things to learn and adapt to, all while caring for her children. Starting this new chapter in her life was scary at times, as Lukombo barely spoke English, and they had very little, only travelling with their three suitcases of clothes. At the same time, Lukombo believed that there would be more opportunities for her and her children in America.
Among those challenges, her youngest son, Abel, was born with an incomplete cochlear and is completely deaf. Lukombo enrolled her son in a sign language kindergarten. It was a challenging and interesting experience learning another new language with her family. At times, she worried she would not be able to understand her son, but she was wrong. Now that Abel is older, he and Lukombo can communicate well. When Abel stumps her with a particular sign, he finds other methods to communicate with his mother in a different way. They are getting along just fine.
Lukombo is a busy woman, but she continues to make as much time as she can for her family and for herself. She works as a PSS (Personal Support Specialist). She has taken English classes and is now proficient in the language. She is currently taking classes to learn to become a seamstress. Her children are thriving in school, both in academia and athletics, and her daughter was recently given a full scholarship into the prestigious Colgate University. Lukombo couldn’t be more proud. Having a happy family is all that she could ask for.
Lukombo favorite quote is:
"With God all things are possible"
****
Thank you, Lukombo, for sharing your story with us all! Very inspiring!
