Today, for the "Women's History Month" project celebration, I would like to introduce this fabulous lady:
Meet Sharon Jones Sharkey, wife, mom of two beautiful daughters, has a passion for food and traveling, and loves to cook!!
"Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” - Muhammad Ali
I was born in San Francisco - California and grew up there. I’ve spent most of my adult life in and around San Antonio, Texas, and Boston, Massachusetts.
I studied finance and economics at Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, Texas
For the majority of my career, I worked in workforce management supporting contact centers across the globe. Prior to that I spent eight years in the United States, Air Force working primarily in finance and budget in support of Elmendorf Hospital and Wilford Hall at Lackland Air Force Base. I’ve had a pretty varied career. I worked in hospitality as restaurant manager, banquet, manager, catering manager. I worked for Kraft food service as a territory sales person selling groceries to restaurants in an around San Antonio. That was certainly a learning experience.
Life challenges?
One of my greatest challenges was work life balance, being a single parent with a very stressful and demanding career. I’m not certain that I’ve actually achieved a good balance. I would look to my children to ask if they felt that I had a good work life Balance. I always felt like I should’ve spent more time with my children and their projects and after school activities, but they’re just never seem to be enough time.
Life achievements?
It’s a very easy question raising two independent beautiful young women. I was also big sister of the year in Boston. I’m very proud of my little sister.
What are your passions?
Anyone who knows me would know that my passion is food and travel. I love to cook. I love to eat great foods and I do love to travel.
What do you value the most in life?
I value relationships I believe that creating bonds and relationships with others is probably one of the most fulfilling things that a human being can do.
Advice for other women:
I’m not certain how wise, but one thing that I have learned in my professional career is that asking for help, looking for a mentor and ceasing to be overly competitive with other women has always helped me to move forward. I believe, sharing your vulnerabilities and your strengths is a progressive step towards professional development.
