Today, for the 2nd day of the "Women's History Month" project, we are celebrating this fantastic young woman
Meet Erin O'Meagher, 29, writer, ambitious and very hardworking...
Erin O’Meagher was born in March, near Seattle, Washington. When they were still young, her parents moved her two siblings and her to Montana, where she spent her formative years. With a physician for a mother and an engineer for a father, they filled her childhood with new and fun learning opportunities. From camping in the mountains to curling up with a hot drink and a good book in one of the many ski lodges, she was never far from adventure.
This fueled her love for storytelling and she began inventing her own from a young age. It helped that her parents rarely said no to buying her another book and her grandmother always brought a new one on her visits. The same grandmother that ignited her wanderlust when, at fourteen, took her to Egypt. On her trip, her inspiration to create stories and imaginary worlds only grew.
Erin attended the University of Montana, where she studied Creative Writing and Irish studies. Her craft and love of writing strengthened over the years she spent there. She joined the Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi in autumn of 2011, where she met some wonderful women who helped her grow and strive. She graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree.
Still inspired by travel, she spent time in Ireland with the University’s Irish Language program, spending time in West Kerry absorbing the language, culture, and myths of Ireland. A little jaunt across the Irish Sea and she explored England and Scotland, all the while writing from train to train.
In 2019, she left the North West for New England and settled in Portland, Maine. She fell in love with the seaside city. After two years, she returned to the West Coast to live with her grandmother and help where she could, finding a part-time job at a local school library where she enjoyed sharing her love of storytelling and books.
In mid-2020 she returned to Maine and currently works as a Patient Service Representative for Maine Health. Her home in Old Orchard Beach allows for her to spend rainy
days at the beach, yes rainy. She loves to binge the newest true crime docuseries, travel, spooky season, and a good cup of coffee.
Here is another one of Erin's favorite Quotes:
“I believe feminism is grounded in supporting the choices of women even if we wouldn’t make certain choices for ourselves.”
-Roxane Gay, Bad Feminist: Essays
